Halar, a brand name of ECTFE (Ethylene ChloroTriFluoroEthylene) is a thermoplastic piping material. Halar comes in pipe and fittings ranging from ½” all the way up to 24” in size. One of the most durable pipe materials on the market, Halar is hailed for its high impact resistance and resistance to corrosive chemicals. In addition to resisting aggressive chemicals like acids and chlorine, ECTFE is able to maintain its strength and properties in applications up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit!
Due to these impressive physical properties, Halar is widely regarded as the most versatile thermoplastic out there. Common uses include applications where high friction is a concern as well as other industrial uses.
A thermoplastic, Halar is made using a semicrystaline polymer that is partially fluorinated. Aside from hot amines and ketons, ECTFE is resistant to almost all chemical types. Typical applications include semiconductor process equipment, chemical storage and processing, solid and lined pipe, tanks and tank linings, sensitive mechanical components, and centrifuge parts.
