What is Bell End Pipe?

If you ever need to order a large amount of PVC pipe, you’ll likely be asked whether you want plain or bell end. Bell end pipe is exactly the same as standard plain-end PVC pipe except for one difference. One end of the pipe is “belled” out to become larger than the rest of the pipe. This flared out end is designed to fit directly onto the next length of pipe you are attaching. Think of it like fitting a long line of straws together.Bell End

There are some pros and cons to using bell end pipe.  For instance, with bell end PVC, you can attach pipe directly to pipe and eliminate the need for PVC couplings. This will end up saving you time and money if your pipe stretches long lengths.

On the downside, the addition of a bell end takes up several inches of the pipe. It is also slightly more expensive than plain end pipe. For this reason, it is recommended you use standard end pipe if your application does not require piecing together straight lengths of pipe.
