PVC Swing Check Valves

Swing check valves are commonly found in manufacturing applications. In fact, in most processing plants, swing check valves are the most commonly used type of valve. The swing check valve design provides a predictable closing time and requires minimal maintenance. This is what makes these valves so popular in manufacturing plants, where reliability is paramount. They can handle a range of pressures and can be made as large as 36 inches. Most large check valves are swing check valves. This is also the type of valve find in the flapper of a flush toilet. Swing check valves are also used in firefighting and fire safety systems. These valves only allow inflow when there is pressure from behind. When there is no pressure, the valve is pushed shut.

Swing check valves have a disc inside that moves to block the flow. It will swing on a hinge onto a seat. When it is on the seat, it blocks reverse flow. When it is off the seat, the flow may move forward. These valves are commonly used in systems, like firefighting equipment and toilets, where pressure creates some of the movement. For example, in a flush toilet, the pressure in the tank holds the valve closed, until someone flushes and manually lifts it. It will stay open until the tank drains and gravity pushes it back down.

These valves are made from durable PVC. This means that they can withstand the constant presence of water, which may be common in plumbing applications, and also can withstand fairly high pressures and high temperatures. PVC resists corrosive chemicals as well, so these PVC swing check valves can be used in chemical processing and labs when needed. While swing check valve are known as some of the larger valves in the PVC industry, they can come in smaller sizes as well. These smaller swing check valves may be seen in aquariums and food or beverage dispensing systems.
