PVC bulkhead fittings, also known as tank adapters, are a common connector used to create a leak-proof seal between a line from inside an enclosure to outside. This is usually a pipeline leading from or to a tank. The bulkhead serves as a sort of union with a piece that goes inside the tank and a piece that connects from the outside. To this you glue or screw your pipe in. Tank adapters come in various sizes depending on your pipe size. You also have a choice of seal material - EPDM or Viton.

6 inch PVC Tank Adapter - Viton (FPT x FPT) 8172V-060
4 inch PVC Tank Adapter - EPDM (FPT x FPT) 8172E-040

These PVC tank adapters are made to a schedule 80 thickness. That means they have a thicker wall than schedule 40 white PVC bulkheads and therefore stand up better to pressure. Schedule 80 PVC is commonly used for industrial applications where pressurized conditions warrant a durable and non-corrosive material. The type of seal material you choose may depend on your application. EPDM and Viton materials both provide a dependable seal under pressure, but each one has a list of chemicals it can handle. Generally speaking, Viton can handle a wider range of corrosive materials. This should be taken into account when purchasing.
