Check Valves

Check Valves for Industrial Process Solutions

Check valves are used to prevent backflow in a system. Unlike many other valves we have available, these valves are not user-operated or actuated. Instead, the fluid in the pipeline controls whether the valve is open or closed. If fluid flows the desired direction, the valve stays open. If fluid attempts to flow backwards through the valve, it shuts. Check valves come in many forms, but the most common types are swing check valves and ball check valves. While they both produce similar results, their construction is vastly different. Swing check valves use a swinging disc to control flow, while ball check valves use a ball or half-ball to control it.

Check valves come in a wide variety of materials. At CIS, we carry several top-of-the-line brands that manufacture check valves out of PVC, CPVC, brass, stainless steel, carbon steel, and more. Each material has its own uses, advantages, and disadvantages. Be sure your check valve is compatible with the application you need it for! PVC and CPVC have high chemical resistance, but comparably low temperature and pressure tolerances. Stainless steel, on the other hand, can withstand blistering temperatures, but will cost you much more. CIS has an number of solutions for preventing backflow for your application.
