Anyone who has had to order or search for an Eaton filter bag by model knows their part naming system can be a bit confusing. Here, we'll break down the part number structure in attempts to demystify the Eaton filter bag ordering experience.
One of the most helpful resources for Eaton filter bags is their "Bag Nomenclature Chart". this displays many of the bag options and gives you an idea of just how many combinations can be made (there are thousands). Follow along with the chart, here.
A full Eaton bag filter part number will have 8 different identifiers. Note, this could be made up of 10 to 19 digits. For the most part, a dash separates the identifiers. Each of these eight pieces of the part number tells something about the filter bag order. In order, these are the bag material, the micron rating, cover type, bag size, ring type, special options, bags per box, and box size. Whew!
Some of these things might not be as important to you - like number of bags per box and size of the box. Others like material and size are very important though. Eaton filter bags are used in a wide range of applications across many industries. Because of this, not all bags are created equal! Here are the most important bag options explained...
Bag Material
Eaton offers over 15 bag material types alone. These include materials like Nylon, Teflon, Polypropylene and Polyester. Each bag material has its own pluses and minuses depending on your application. For assistance in tailoring a bag to your specific application, you should contact an Eaton bag supplier. See our contact info here. The bag material is denoted in the part number by one to four letters. Example: PEXL stands for Extended life polyester needled felt, no scrim, glazed finish.
Micron Rating
Depending on the size of material you're filtering out, you may want a very fine or more course mesh. This is where the micron rating comes into play. Believe it or not, some Eaton bag filters can filter down to the bacterial level! Micron ratings can range from .45 to 1250.
Size
The size of bag you'll need is mostly determined by the type of filter housing you are using. Some housings may also hold multiple bags, so keep that in mind. Check your filter system for the size you need. Eaton also offer special sizes (code 99) for applications requiring that. Sizes are denoted by two numbers starting at 01.
Ring Type
The filter ring is what the fabric is attached to and what locks into place on the filter housing. Some ring types may work best with your filter housing, while other times you may choose a ring type based on your application. This identifier is denoted by one or two letters. Example: "A" denotes a Stainless steel snap ring.
