Wound cartridges are built using precise technological processes that make them extremely efficient. In construction, the wire is wound tightly against itself around the core. The wire closest to the core is wound narrowest, with almost no gaps. Further outside, the wire is not as closely-wound, leaving room for larger particles. Wound filter cartridges are efficient because they catch large particles towards the surface and smaller particles by the core.
This style of cartridge was the first used for cartridge filtration, and with such a long history of performance, they are still widely-used. The overlapping nature of wound filter cartridges gives them a large surface area, with a large amount of media with which to filter. Most commonly used in water filtration applications, such as river water, wastewater, and process water, wound filter cartridges are dependable and efficient!
