Types of Brass Valves
Brass Ball Valves
Brass Ball Valves provide fast, reliable on/off flow control with a quarter-turn handle. A full-port ball inside the valve body allows unrestricted flow when open and creates a tight seal when closed, with minimal pressure drop across the valve. Our Apollo brass ball valves feature PTFE seats, lead-free brass bodies, and are rated up to 600 PSI CWP at temperatures up to 366°F. Available with threaded FNPT x FNPT or sweat solder end connections for copper piping. Ball valves are the most common brass valve type and are used in residential plumbing, commercial mechanical systems, HVAC, compressed air, and general industrial service.
Brass Gate Valves
Brass Gate Valves provide full-bore, low-restriction flow when open and a tight seal when closed. Gate valves are designed for on/off isolation rather than throttling and are commonly used in water distribution, fire protection, and general-purpose plumbing where the valve remains either fully open or fully closed during normal operation. Available with threaded NPT end connections.
Brass Check Valves
Brass Check Valves allow flow in one direction and prevent backflow automatically with no manual operation required. A swing-type mechanism inside the valve opens with forward flow and closes under reverse pressure, protecting pumps, water heaters, and other equipment from damage caused by backflow. Brass check valves are compact and install inline with threaded connections.
Lead-Free Brass for Potable Water
Federal and state regulations require that valves and fittings used in potable water systems contain no more than 0.25% lead on wetted surfaces. Our Apollo lead-free brass ball valves meet this requirement and are certified to NSF/ANSI 372 for lead-free compliance and NSF/ANSI 61-8 for drinking water system components. If your application involves potable water supply, domestic plumbing, or any system connected to a drinking water source, lead-free brass valves are required by code. For applications that do not involve potable water, including industrial process lines, irrigation, and compressed air, standard leaded brass may also be available. Sizes and Connections
Sizes: 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2", and 2". Availability varies by valve type.
Threaded ends, FNPT x FNPT: Threaded ends are the standard connection for brass valves. Female NPT threads on both ends allow the valve to be installed between two male-threaded pipe ends or nipples. Use PTFE thread tape or pipe thread sealant for a leak-free joint. Threaded connections allow for easy removal and replacement during maintenance.
Sweat ends, solder: Sweat ends are available on Apollo brass ball valves for direct soldered connections to copper tubing. Sweat connections create a permanent, high-strength joint and are standard in residential and commercial copper piping systems.
